America possesses no shortage of military heroes. In every war, men have stepped forward to their duty and fought to the death for the cause of the hour. Not all of those heroes were educated in the professional military academies, especially in the War for American Independence. In fact, almost none were formally trained in the arts of war. The invasion of one’s country and the attack on family and property from enemies foreign or domestic wonderfully focuses a man’s mind on the task at hand–to protect and defend his hearth and home. Francis Marion (The Swamp Fox) was just such a man; he laid aside his plow, took up his rifle and tomahawk and made the British regret their visit to South Carolina.
We honor The Swamp Fox with our boldest cigar.
