We chose a rare tobacco called Desflorado for the Calvin Coolidge Cigar and hand-crafted it into a Gordo (meaning large) vitola.
When congress was quibbling over a particular piece of legislation he wanted passed, President Coolidge would invite the gaggle to the White House, light up a giant cigar, offer the same to his guests, and under a veil of blue smoke, turn the back of his chair to the stunned legislators.
It was considered rude not to partake in his offering, and even more so to leave before the president was finished enjoying his.
The President would draw out the smoking of his big cigar until the lawmakers had come around to his way of thinking. True to his style, he barely had to utter a word.
